“Acceptance of yourself is far more important than acceptance from others.”
I saw this quote recently and it really stuck out in my brain, especially as someone who is a blogger and social media influencer. This past year was truly a year of self-exploration, self-awareness, and self-love for me. It was a labor of intentional love and acceptance for myself and trust me when I say, I failed many more times than I succeeded.
But, the most important thing I learned in the process (which is still an ongoing process by the way), is that you have to love and accept yourself first before anyone else ever truly will. It starts with you. It starts with taking care of your mind, body, and spirit, and being able to wake up everyday and pursue being a better person, inside and out.
I learned to dress for myself, to remain genuine in who I am, what I believe, and what I want to share with the world. People respond to real.
And lastly, I learned that I can love who I am and what I look like while still continuing to change. I will never be a “finished product” and I am okay with that. I love the me from 6 months ago and I love the me today.
Acceptance from others feels good, everyone wants to be liked, whether they can admit it or not. But trust me when I say, acceptance of yourself feels the best.
